After making a lot of noise with his most recent videos and singles "Puff Pass" and "Wake & Bake", Yonkers, New York stationed lyricist D.I.V. sits down with New York Rising to discuss other New York based recording artists, the best spots to visit in NY, his future projects and more!
New York Rising: What part of New York do you represent?
D.I.V.: I am from Westchester and live in Yonkers.
New York Rising: How would you describe the music scene in your neck of the woods?
D.I.V.: Well my team ( Giant G FamMilli) is really based out of Harlem and the Bronx, and we mostly do city
events. It's New York so you know the music scene is the heaviest.
New York Rising: For those that aren't from here, what would you say are some of the best spots to visit?
New York Rising: For those that aren't from here, what would you say are some of the best spots to visit?
D.I.V.: Anywhere that D.I.V. or Giant G's are performing is probably the best place to be. word. I
would definitely recommend going to City Island, Katz Deli, Sues
Rendevous... I mean if you like sight seeing just go to manhattan, times
square is famous...
theres really so many place you could go.
New York Rising: Who are some local, New York recording artists that you respect?
D.I.V.: Nuf
Sed, Sha Jiggs, Hop Da Great, Rob Frank, Krayon, D Boi the bad guy,
The Lox, DMX, Papoose, Nas, Jay Z, the list goes on...
New York Rising: Right now the South is dominating the music industry (primarily urban music), where do you see the music industry headed in the next 5 years?
D.I.V.: Well
personally I dont really feel like some of the biggest artists are east
coast, but people just dont realize... like right now you got Jay Z,
Nas, Nicki Minaj, French Montana, Waka Flocka, Jadakiss, Fred Da Godson,
Fabolous, Uncle Murda, Busta Rhymes, Joel Ortiz from Slaughterhouse,
Maino, Swizz Beats, Fat Joe and many more all from New York and all
still relevant. I just think for a while it was dominated by the south,
but now its just people get this idea that New York fell off... Never
that! I will say that alot of artist I feel use more south beats and
have gone "south paw" and I think thats why it still seems like its all
southern dominated.
New York Rising: For those that haven't heard you, could you tell the readers what they are missing?
D.I.V.: They
are missing some dope lyricism, an original style and by far the dopest
white dude in hip hop... My tracks are unique in thier sound, my flow
is my flow, not someone elses, and I am very versatile. My content and
vocabulary is far beyond your usual artist and I feel thats why I am
worth the listeners attention.
New York Rising: Are there any last minute plugs you would like to make? Any mentions?
D.I.V.: Just
look out for my new projects dropping soon, new videos and interviews.
We have shows coming up, and exclusive footage as well. go to http://destinyinvision.com/ for all official releases.
